Crocuses!! The small colourful and at the same time cute flowers that pop up early in the spring. And that make me happy every year again. And when the early spring sun shines, they almost explode and become a source of attraction for bumblebee queens, bees and hoverflies. You have them in various colours and beautiful combinations. A flower bulb to end the winter with and announce the spring. They are tender but also strong. They do not shy away from a rain shower, a period of frost and even a layer of snow. And when the earth is warmed up even slightly by that early spring sun, they shoot out of the ground in the strangest places. And they open their hearts to everyone who wants to see, feel or smell it. This flower is not available as a cut flower, but they do well in the garden, between the grass, in the border, in a flower pot even between the paving stones I see them proudly emerge. Of course there are many other flowers high on my list such as the daisy, gerbera, lupine, tulips, a flower that I find very beautiful but that does not really appeal to me are roses. No idea why. I buy them sometimes and they look beautiful in a vase, but they are certainly not in my top five.

The ultimate number one is for the crocus. The only pity about the crocus is that it only lasts a few weeks that you can enjoy it and then you have to wait a whole year before they appear again.

Well, maybe that’s what makes them so special. The crocus with its purple and yellow colours, large flowered and the somewhat smaller ones that I prefer. I can enjoy such a small flower so grandly.
