It is now starting to look a bit like a mini farm. Mini, even that may sound a bit exaggerated, but now that my vegetable garden at the back of the garden has made space for a lawn and the chicken run has been transformed into a beautiful custom-made greenhouse. Of course, I welded it together myself and fitted it with beautiful large glass panels. It is all being and has been driven into a beautiful combination. No more potatoes next to the pond, no cucumbers that overgrow the path to the barn, but a beautiful, neat garden, where you can put a nice garden set with a fantastic elongated greenhouse on the right-hand side. Which is bulging with tasty vegetables and a cat.
Because Sjors has completely discovered his place and has appropriated various other places in addition to his cool spot under the flower box on legs. Nowadays there is a wicker basket next to the cucumber plant, and a cardboard box, which used to be next to the emerging pumpkins but has now been given a place next to the strawberries.
Sjors was very happy with the vegetable garden that I had created at the back of our garden. Little by little it also got out of hand. But Sjors and I, we visibly enjoyed it. In retrospect, choosing a vegetable garden on the vegetable garden complex was a much better idea, and I also have a lot more square meters of land to grow vegetables than here in my backyard.
Now that this greenhouse is there, it seems that Sjors has completely surrendered to this rather luxurious position.
Because he is visibly enjoying himself again. On cold days, a greenhouse naturally provides warmth, and you can spend a wonderful time there, even if there is not much in it, a place to sleep can always be found and even for drinking a cup of tea, a greenhouse is worth it. When the temperatures rise, it quickly gets above forty degrees, yes, then I have to admit that I do not drink my cup of tea in the greenhouse for pleasure, but Sjors, Sjors also enjoys his nap, somewhere in a corner. Sjors is a real farm cat, that is simply in his genes. So this greenhouse is completely written on his belly. Whether it is under the cucumber plant, between the tomatoes, or the kohlrabi, it does not matter to him. And since he is a real carnivore, Sjors also likes lettuce. Yes, our house tiger loves lettuce, so you will probably be surprised to hear that he nibbles the edges of my newly emerging butterhead lettuce and eats the chives. Fortunately, my surplus lettuce plants are a bit higher up.
I must admit that I find it really cozy. When Sjors joins me. When sowing the vegetables or the sunflowers. And when I have to move some of the lying spots because otherwise I can’t water properly, oh well, there are worse things in life.
Greenhouse Tomcat Sjors is enjoying himself. As long as he doesn’t eat all the lettuce plants and doesn’t take a nap on top of the herbs.
Maybe I’ll create some more spots for him in the greenhouse, or put a nice wooden chair in there, so we can drink that cup of tea together. The farmer without a farm is having a great time this way. With a real vegetable garden and a great greenhouse at home, with lots of tasty vegetables, a number of guinea pigs, a dachshund and a real greenhouse tomcat. While I’m typing this blog, I see Sjors lying in his cardboard box in the greenhouse. With his eyes squinted, I see him go from place to place, I see him secretly nibble at the edges of the butterhead lettuce and he keeps an eye on the blackbird from a distance. He plays with a woodlouse that comes trotting past and the cabbage white is just a little too fast for him.
Our Sjors, our greenhouse-tomcat, he enjoys it so much, just like I do. Every time again, as long as the door is open we are outside. With sand under my nails and sand in his fur we both smell of earth and that nasty smell of tomatoes. We both love lettuce and are the first to nibble on the red strawberries. A greenhouse under your own management is fun, but it is even more fun with a greenhouse-tomcat.
